Hikes, trips, and other outings

Below you’ll find a timeline of the various hiking trips and other outings that I’ve taken, nearly always with Kim at my side. You can view photos from virtually every trip. Hiking and NPS site trips (check out the listings) are usually found at scottspics.com, while most other trips can be found on my flickr page. Enjoy.

28. Finally made it to the Mission Santa Ana de Chirquiburitac site in Ironwood Forest National Monument, accompanied by the park ranger and a fellow FIF board member. We also stopped at the old Silverbell town site, as well as encountering some border activity near the mission. 01/14/2008
29. Led some colleagues on a muddy hike over Black Mesa in Agua Fria National Monument. We toured a few rock art sites, a large pueblo ruin, and the remains of an old mining town before returning to the vehicle. 01/09/2008
30. Took a quick walk down muddy Badger Springs Wash in Agua Fria National Monument to see if we could cross there during tomorrow’s hike. Um, not so much. It was roaring, churning, and otherwise looking like a real river, not the one I’m used to seeing there. 01/08/2008
31. Made a quick stop down at Casa Beach (aka Childrens Pool) in La Jolla Cove to check out the harbor seals [learn more]. 12/30/2007
32. Took in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, visited the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá (the first Spanish mission in California), and ended the day with a sunset walk on Mission Beach. 12/29/2007
33. Spent the day at the San Diego Wild Animal Park enjoying all of the exhibits, including the “Journey Into Africa” tour of the backlot. 12/28/2007
34. Took a quick walk around Casa Grande Ruins National Monument after having a meeting there. 12/19/2007
35. Hit Navajo National Monument for a guided tour of the Betatakin Ruin. It’s a nice 5mi. round-trip trail originally constructed by the CCC, with +/- 700ft of elevation gain. We also took the scenic overlook trail. 11/18/2007
36. Spent the day on a National Public Lands Day service project in the White Pockets are of Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. We closed some illegal roads entering the wilderness area, and delineated a parking area for White Pockets visitor to help keep vehicles off the rock formations. 11/17/2007
37. Stopped by the Museum of Northern Arizona on our way up to Page. Nice place, but was hoping to see some Perry Mesa artifacts I’ve heard so much about. I did enjoy running into an old colleague that works there. 11/16/2007
38. Toured a few archaeological sites in Ironwood Forest National Monument with two site stewards. We visited Cerro Prieto and a nearby rock art site recently damaged by target shooting. 11/14/2007
