The Dennis Erickson era began last night at Sun Devil Stadium.
And, like the souvenir drink cups explained, the new coach equals a new attitude.
In one of the most economical and efficient games ever on Frank Kush Field, the Devils rushed for 250 yards, and added another 270 through the air to finish with 520 total yards of offense. With only 40 yards in penalties, the rumors of an undisciplined team quickly evaporated. ASU converted an astounding 13 of 17 third down situations. On the defensive side of the ball, ASU held a quality San Jose State offense to just 115 total yards, and 3 points that came off a short field.
For even a former Koetter supporter like myself, it’s clear that Erickson is a tremendous upgrade. It’s a single game, but one that sends a clear message: new coach = new attitude.
