This quest involves visiting the Affiliated Areas of the National Park System (#GoQuesting2256).

These are generally places that are related to existing National Park units, but they are not federally owned or managed. Indeed, the affiliated area status has been ill-defined over time, but rarely conveys much beyond technical assistance provided by the NPS to a state or a private entity. In short, affiliated area designations are often sought as a way to boost tourism, not to identify or protect important places.
