Arches with Robert & Shanna – October 2004

A long weekend road trip up to Arches National Park with a couple friends. It was our first time at the park, and we arrived without camping reservations. Luckily, we found a BLM-managed campground with some open sites upstream along the Colorado River.

After yesterday's scenic drive down the Apache Trail (see my IG stories), I ran across this photo, shot during an overnight backpacking trip on the Arizona Trail from across the lake. 74 4
Phoenix was pretty foggy this morning, which reminded me of our 2016 visit to Shenandoah National Park. This was one of the few shots we got that day where the clouds weren't totally socked in. Undeterred, we stopped at every single one of the 75 scenic vista pull-offs on Skyline Drive and took a picture, which resulted in a fun fog album on Facebook. I'll definitely need a return visit to see it on a sunny day. 56 2
